San Francisco, CA

Sunday, October 3, 2010 9:00am

Bib# 1682

Type: Point-to-point / Difficulty: 3

Official time: 43:41 / 9:42 pace

302nd place out of 1409 (21.4%)

Age group (40-49): 30/108 (27.7%)

Garmin time/pace: 41:56/9:37 (4.36miles)

Mile - 1=9:26 / 2=9:17 / 3=10:00 / 4=9:39

Notes: A suprisingly easy run, probably because I changed my mind from doing the 12k to doing the 7k at the last minute. It started to rain shortly before the race, but the clouds cleared and it ended up being a beautiful day! And they were giving away free beer at the end of the race, which I of course didn't partake.

Bib# 40922

Type: Loop / Difficulty: 9

Official time: 5:17:10 / 12:05 pace

4936th place out of 5955 (82.8%)

Age group (45-49) 371/423 (87.7%)

Garmin time/pace (26.7m): 5:16:29/11:51

8= 13:42 / 9= 10:03 / 10 = 11:14 / 11= 10:12 / 12= 11:33 / 13= 11:13 / 14 = 11:07 /

15 = 12:14 /16 = 11:41 / 17= 12:47 / 18= 12:51 / 19= 13:25 / 20 = 13:26 / 21 = 13:22 /

22= 12:52 / 23= 13:56 / 24= 13:47 / 25= 14:49 / 26= 14:49 / .7= 9:20

NOTES: My first marathon! It was very slow, but all I wanted to do was finish so I could get a feel of what it's like. I was VERY sore afterwards, but I think that's from not training very well. But I'm happy that I finished! "Onward and upward," as my friend Bill told me!

Benefitting The American River Parkway

American River Parkway, Carmichael, CA

Saturday, May 1, 2010 8:00am

Bib#

Type: Out & Back / Difficulty: 3

Official time: 2:13:34.3 / 10:11 pace

1213th place out of 2838 (42.7%)

Age group (M45-49): 78/116 (67.2%)

Garmin time/pace: 2:13:35/10:06 (12.21miles)

Splits: Mile -1 10:28/-2 9:25 /-3 9:33/-4 9:32/-5 9:36/-6 9:44/-7 9:43

-8 9:57/-9 10:03/-10 10:32/-11 10:24/-12 11:10/-13 10:55

NOTES: A nice run on a beautiful day, and I ran out of gas around mile 10, but still am happy with my results. The first mile was walk/run, as the beginning route seemed more suitable for a couple hundred runners, not a couple thousand. But the weather was perfect and the course was scenic and flat. What more could you ask for? Next year (if I do it again), remember to move closer to the front. And don't wear a long sleeve shirt!

Aquatic Park/Ft Mason/Marina/Presidio/Golden Gate Bridge/Sausalito

Sunday, April 11, 2010 7:00am

Bib#

Type: Out & Back / Difficulty: 6

Official Time: 2:08:43 / 9:50 pace

821st place out of 1438 (57.1%)

Division place: 95/127 (74.8%)

Gender place: 487/696 (70%)

Garmin time/pace: 2:08:44/9:52

Splits: Mile -1 9:49/-2 9:38/-3 9:22/-4 9:58/-5 10:10/-6 9:38/

-7 10:16/-8 10:19/-9 9:29/-10 9:08/-11 9:45/-12 10:12/ -13 10:42

Notes: My favorite half marathon of all time! It was chilly, rainy, but the course was the most beautiful in the world. The worst day running in San Francisco is better than the best day running anywhere else. But that's just my opinion. I finished it in about what I figured I would, less than my goal of under 2 hours, but I didn't realistically think it would happen. So, I'm happy with the outcome. It didn't start raining until I was off the bridge, so I was happy about that. The wind and the rain coming down towards the last couple of miles throught the Marina is what slowed me down. But it was a great race!

Splits: Mile 1-8:28/2-9:36/3-8:40/4-8:39/5-8:44/6-10:13

NOTES: OK, who's idea was it to put 612 steps (or so it seemed) in the middle of a 10k? This was the most beautiful and the most difficult 10k I've done. And my time wasn't all that bad!

Benefitting the Marine Mammal Institute

Marin Headlands, Sausalito, CA

Saturday, March 13, 2010 9:30am

Type: Loop / Difficulty: 7

Self timed: 34:29 / 8:36 pace

Notes: My third run for the seals! On an absolutley picture perfect day in Sausalito, Michael, Shaun and I went to the Marin Headlands for the event. I ran the 4 miler, they did the 2 mile walk. I forgot about the hills at the beginning, and the VERY rude hill right at the end. Afterwards we toured the new facility, and had a very nice time. Too bad Mother Mitchell couldn't make it. Next year!

Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, CA

Sunday, February 28, 2010 9:00am

Type: Out&Back / Difficulty: 2

Official time: 53:53 / 8:41 pace

149th place out of 244 (61.1%)

Sex: 107/143 (74.8%)

Age 40-49: 28/32 (87.5%)

Garmin time/pace: 53:50/8:39 pace (6.22m)

Garmin splits: Mile 1-8:51/2-9:10/3-8:41/4-8:33/5-8:40/6:8:16

Notes: Apparently I like this course/race, because I finished 24 seconds shy of my PR, which was also on this course. I had to stop and tie my shoe towards the end, which is probably why I didn't make it my PR. But the girl who passed me going to the finish line gave me some inspirition to go faster :)

Division place: 86 out of 231 (37.2%)

Notes: My 3rd Plate to Plate! Now for my excuses: I hadn't run in a LONG time, not even on the treadmill, so I literally got off the couch and ran the race. So, I told myself I would be happy with anything under 30 minutes, which I barely made. And my bib number was the year I was born. cool!

Bib# 3054

Official Time: 2:16:26 / 10:25 pace

1541st place out of 2406 (64%)

Division: 178/218 (81.7%)

Sex: 843/1077 (78.3%)

My time/pace: 2:16:20/10:25

Notes: Yet another perfect running day in San Francisco, this one started at the Municipal Pier at the foot of Van Ness, went through the Presidio, up to the pedestrian side of the Golden Gate Bridge, down and under the bridge to the bike side, then back to the pier. It rained when it should of, so the running gods again were smiling on San Francisco. My darn plantar fascitis was bugging me again, which slowed me down. But it was still a good run, expecially after only 4 hours of sleep.

Official Time: 2:12:01 / 10:04 pace

Sex place: 2702th place out of 4188 (65.0%)

Notes: This must have been a wicked easy course, I ran/walked the last 5 miles because my foot hurt really bad. But it was a really nice day, the weather almost perfect and the course was very flat, and mostly dull, which I suppose can be a good thing. And there were 13,000 people who showed up (9563 finishers). But lots of bands, as would be expected, and a really good vibe all around.

Cesar Chavez Park/Berkeley Marina

Sunday, September 21, 2008

Bib# 19

Type: Loop/Out & Back / Difficulty: 2

Official time:

My time/pace: 53:06/9:21

Notes: Oops.... I cheated, but not on purpose! I cut through a dirt road which I shouldn't have, which cut my 10k by a little less than a mile (hence the 5.67 mile above). d'Oh!! My time was slow anyway. I would have been happy with a 53:06 10k, but I'm sure it would have been well over an hour which would have been my slowest 10k ever.

Notes: I ran until my nipples bled... Michelle and I finished the official 'Coast to Coast' Disney runs! My first half at Disney World, and this one at Disneyland - woohoo! It was a festive course, ,starting at California Adventure, running through Disneyland, then on the streets of Anaheim, around Angel Stadium (or whatever it's called), and ending at Downtown Disney. I did better than the first Disney race, but about my average for a half.

My time/pace: 27:29/8:50

Notes: My second plate to plate! A totally fun day, I ran and Shaun and Michael walked/ran. The most fun (of course) was coming into AT&T Park by right field and running around the outfield and catching imainary flyballs up against center field and left field and jumping on home plate. Cool.... A slow day, but it was mostly a fun run, benefiting one of my favorite causes, Project Open Hand. Woohoo!

And I had my own cheering section in Michael and Shaun! I didn't train, so I knew I wouldn't break any records, but I'm really enjoying the half-marathons.

317th place out of 930 (34.0%)

Age group (40-49): 56/95 (58.9%)

My time/pace: 59:07 / 9:30 pace

Notes: Well, from looking at my last notes on races, I seem to make excuses for whatever my time was, so this time: A fun run on an unusually wicked hot day in San Francisco (it was at least 80 degrees during the race). I'm sure it was my slowest 10k, but my goal for a 10k has always been under an hour, so I made it. Woohoo! There were way more people this year, and I didn't see the mayor at all... oh well... AND I ran with my new 10k playlist on my iPod. Wanna know the playlist? OK, here it is:

1. Upside Down/Jack Johnson

2. Smooth/Santana

3. Dragon Attack/Queen

4. American Woman/Lenny Kravitz

5. Groove is in the Heart/Deee-Lite

6. You Wreck Me/Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

12. Surrender/Cheap Trick

13. Mentally Dull (Think Tank Remix)

14. Ants Marching (Live)/Dave Matthews Band

15. Winning/Santana

16. American Idiot/Green Day

If I finish before 'Winning,' then it will be my PR; If I finish during that song, I'm at my goal. If I'm still running when 'American Idiot' starts, I'm past my goal...

Golden Gate Park/Polo Field

Wednesday, June 4, 2008 7:00pm

Bib# 301

Type: Loop / Difficulty: 3

unOfficial time: 27:11 / 8:44 pace

Notes: 3 races in 5 days - I'm a ROCK STAR! My third and probably last Duskbuster. I don't seem to do very well with evening races. Maybe it's because I get up so god-awful early. ANYway..... a nice evening, a good crowd and a very popular course at the Polo Fields. I think the most popular courses are the Polo Fields and the Conservatory.

Notes: A great course on a beautiful day, and my first back-to-back race! I did a 5k the day before, so I guess this was my mini-"Goofy Challenge." The course was beautiful, starting in downtown Sonoma and travelling through town, running through Buena Vista Winery and ending up back at the square. A great race, and one I hope to do again next year!

Notes: My 50th race! A nice day and a very fast course, on a mostly closed street run around William Land Park. The mood was really cool, lots of dogs (of course) and the agility course was my favorite. I only ran once since the Bay to Breakers, so I knew I wasn't going to break any records.

Embarcadero - Ocean Beach/San Francisco

Type: Point-To-Point / Difficuty: 5 (damn Hayes Street Hill!)

Sunday, May 18, 2008 8:00am

Bib# 14123

Official Time: 1:14:51/ 10:03 pace

Overall: 5,143 / 22,439 (22.9%)

Sex: 3,772 / 10,921 (34.5%)

Division (40-49): 826 / 2,319 (35.6%)

Vallejo runners: 24 / 132 (18.2%)

My time/pace: 1:14:49 / 10:03 pace

iPod splits: Mile 1-10:24; 2-11:11; 3-11:21; 4-10:10; 5-10:45; 6-8:59; 7.45-11:51

Notes: My first non-drinking and running B2B! It was all good and fun, even getting slappd in the face by more tortilla's at the starting line than I want to count. And the "dreaded" Hayes Street hill wasn't nearly as bad as I feared. Maybe the hype was more than it need be. But I finishd WAY better than I should have, what with stopping and taking pictures and dodging the walkers, and I stopped to use the restroom once during the race. An all around good time! Next year, under an hour?

1,898th place out of 35,883

My time/pace: 30:16/9:44

Notes: My second Revlon run, which is basically a fun run. Lots of celebrities and a very cool vibe. A slow run around the coliseum, dodging walkers and stuf. And I was getting over a nasty cold from the day before. Next year will be better!

Notes: The course was almost perfect, mostly flat and paved, and no street traffic, and thankfully LOTS of water stations, as it was kinda warm. I did better than I should of, what with only running once at the gym since my last race (another half). During the race I thought I might actually break 2 hours, but it wasn't to be. I will definetly put this on my race calendar for next year.

Sunday, April 13, 2008 8:00am

198th place out of 351 (56.4%)

Sex place 104/140 (74.3%)

Division (45-49): 10/16 (62.5%)

My time/pace: 2:09:25 / 9:52

Notes: On an unusally warm (for this time of year) day at Paso Robles, and after not really running for two weeks, I did way better than I should have. It was a beautiful run, through vinyards and ranches and rural San Luis Obispo county, though I would have wanted a few more water stations. And the steep hill at the final half-mile of the race was just plain rude. Next year I'll do better!

My time/pace: 24:32/7:53

Mountain Lake Park, San Francisco

Type: Out & Back / Difficulty: 9

55th place out of 130 (42.3%)

Gender: 44/129 (34.1%)

My time/pace: 27:40/8:54

Notes: Well, I now know why it was called the 'Roller Coaster' run. Lots of hills, the rudest being the turnaround which was at the bottom of the steepest hill. I was sorta warned when I heard someone say it was the 'hardest 5k on earth!' Probably not the best run to do a week after a half marathon, but I finished faster than I should have.

I knew I wouldn't make it in a minute, but I really didn't want to have a final time of '25:05' or something, since my goal at the moment is sub-25. So, I turned it up and finished at 24:54. Schweeeeeeeet....

15) 6th ANNUAL DUSKBUSTER 5k
Benefiting The Northern California Chapter of
the National Multiple Sclerosis SocietyPOLO FIELDS/GOLDEN GATE PARK
Type: Loop / Difficulty: 4

Wednesday, June 6, 2007 7:00pm
Self-Timed: 27:00 / 8:43 pace
Bib# 3Notes: A windy, fun evening at Golden Gate Park, my second Duskbuster, and third race at the Polo Fields. Lots of fun, I kept it slow, listened to the Giants lose, got to run through sprinklers and everything! I haven't been going to the gym regularily, so my speed isn't at the sub-25:00 I want it to be, but it's getting better!

14) DSE MISSION ROCK 5k
CHINA BASIN/SAN FRANCISCOType: Out & Back / Difficulty: 2

OFFICIAL TIME: 27:05 / 8:44 pace
64th place out of 105 (61.9%)
Gender: 57/74 (77%)
Notes: Much better! Since signing up for the Walt Disney World (half) Marathon, I decided to get serious about my running. I kept it slow and didn't stop, and am quite satisfied with this run. My "pie in the sky" goal is still sub-20, but my comfort zone is sub-25. Next time!

Notes: Well... everything about the day was really cool, except for the race itself. 65,000 people, mostly walkers, I didn't get started until 15 minutes after the starting gun for the run, and 5 minutes after the starting gun for the walk. And I was dodging walkers all the way, bouncing in and out of the street, on the sidewalk, etc. Actually it was kinda fun. I look at it as a fun run. Oh yeah, I also stopped at an ATM during the race.

My time/pace: 27:10/8:44Gender: 29/48 (60.4%)
Div (40-49): 9/10 (90.0%)

Notes: An absolutely perfect Autumn day in Pacifica for this run! It started at Rockaway Beach, went up a steep hill, then back down and the turnaround was at Taco Bell. The hill wore me out! But another spectatular day, there was even a rainbow over the ocean when we started. My time still sucks, hopefully I can get back to where I want to be...CLICK HERE FOR THE OFFICIAL RESULTS! Guntime/pace: 40:12/9:14
Notes: My longest race, and still not up to where my pace should be. But it was fun, a big event I had never heard of before, and the run was beautiful, from the Ferry Building, down the Embarcadero, through Fishermans Wharf, across the Marina Green, ending up in the Presidio. And it was the first race I have done that had a beer tent at the end, with the 49er game on. Woohoo!

Guntime/pace: 25:41/8:16

Notes: Three months to the day after taking off some time with a tweaked back and working on my house weekends, I had a lousy run. I exerted myself too much, did the first mile in 6 minutes (cool! I'll break 20 minutes easy!). So, I was worn out pretty quick and stopped running for the first time since I started running. But it was for a good cause (Breast Cancer), and it got me back into running.

Notes: Two seconds off my PR! d'Oh!! But it tied my pace PR, so that's a good thing. A nice day in Golden Gate Park (is there any other kind of day in GGP?), the same course I did previously. This was a cool run, done the day before the Gay Pride Parade so it was very festive.CLICK HERE FOR THE OFFICIAL RESULTS! (I'M #19)

Notes: My first evening race. The first time since I had been running that my time got worst, not better. Why? Well, here's the excuses I'm using: I'm not use to running in the evening, I had to work all day, I was hungry.... let me know if you can think of any other excuses to use...

Div (40-49): 12/19 (63.2%)
Gender: 30/54 (55.6%)

My time/pace: 33:50/8:15
Notes: What a course! Part paved path, part street running, part trail running, hills and slopes, dogs in the park... but still a lot of fun! There was some confusion about the length of the course; my ribbon said it was 4.5 miles, which would have put my pace WAY faster than it actually was. It was finally determined that it was 4.1 miles.CLICK HERE FOR THE OFFICIAL RESULTS! (I'M #33)

Div (40-49): 15/19 (78.9%)
Gender: 40/57 (70.2%)
My time/pace: 32:47/8:11
Notes: My first race back home. I didn't tell anyone I was going to do it, in case I chickened out (which was a possibility). It was a nice day, cool and overcast, with a 50% chance of rain that didn't happen. The course was straight out and back, along the Great Highway and the beach. Now I know why San Francisco is considered the best running city in the world.

Notes: My first race! Michelle & Chris talked me into it, and now I'm hooked. I have been doing the treadmill pretty reguarily for the past 5 years or so, but never considered running. I usually do 30 minutes every morning, which comes out to about 5k, so the (short) races I do are pretty much what my body is use to anyway.
The run was nice, weather was cool and the course was mostly flat.
